Rammstein return to America

Though Rammstein is soon returning to Australia for the Big Day Out it’s been a decade since the band last played a show in America, partiality because their pyrotechnic-heavy show can’t be granted a permit in most venues in America (and maybe because German metal bands who side line in dildo modeling aren’t exactly mom and pop favourties).
However, according to the band’s website [and a rough Google translation] in December “Rammstein to come to the desire of tens of thousands to U.S. fans, the band, to be able to do 10 years after their last appearance in the U.S., in their own country once again live” with a one-off show in New York City on December 11th at Madison Square Garden.
Guitarist Richard Kruspe recently told the Seattle Gay News that “One of my dreams is Madison Square Garden – just to play one show and to feel out, like, if there is a need for us, are people waiting for us, what can we do, what would be the next step?”
Kruspe also explained why the band hasn’t played in America for ten years “We’re not 20 anymore, so things have changed for us. At the moment, it looks like America is the only market where we cannot provide the same show as we play in the rest of the world. [Due largely to permits regarding pyrotechnics.] So, we have to be balanced, like, what makes financial sense?”
Rammstein played at the Quebec City Summer Festival in July this year, prompting “a wave of thousands” to travel to Canada, according to the band’s website which claim that the audience for the Canadian show was in excess of 130,000 people.
