Rammstein Announce Only US Performance

Rammstein announced their only US live performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City is scheduled for Saturday, December 11, 2010. This will be the only US show by the Berlin-based six-piece band, who have not performed in the United States since 2001 "Everything for this show is perfect - the timing, the season. We are really pumped to return to the States to play Madison Square Garden - this is one of the most challenging shows for us in 10 years," said bassist Oliver Riedel.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, October 8 at noon and available at www.ticketmaster.com and www.thegarden.com.
Rammstein first stormed America in 1998, touring with a set based on their Grammy-nominated breakthrough second release, Sehnsucht, featuring "Du hast," the song that brought the world's attention to the band. During their 1998 Family Values tour, praise was high, as well as indignation: band members were jailed in the US on indecency charges due to the highly provocative live show.
"The success of the Rammstein song "Du hast" in the US was certainly one of the essential steps in our career," said drummer Christoph Schneider.

The band's last tour of the US in 2001 was in support of the album "Mutter," where they continued to explore societal and sexual taboos with a deft mix of sonic muscle and visual spectacle. Throughout the last decade they have found themselves embroiled in further controversy, incensing both the left and the right. The band's most recent album, "Liebe ist für alle da" ("Love is there for all"), moved the German government to ban its sale to minors shortly after release, only to have the order rescinded a few months later once the culture war was over. Meanwhile, there was no doubt about fans' appreciation of the work: more than 16 million albums sold worldwide, #1 on many charts across Europe, and entrance on the Billboard Charts at #13 - the highest chart entry for Rammstein in the United States ever.
Rammstein began extensive touring last fall in support of "Liebe ist für alle da." Their formidable live show traversed Europe in twenty 18-wheelers packed with pyrotechnics, flame-throwers, bazookas and enough ordnance to level a small country. The band played to sold-out crowds in 10,000+ seat venues, leading up to a summer filled with headlining slots on all the major European festivals. Now, Rammstein is set to perform in Latin America later this fall, where the band will be playing in some cities for the first time in its history. And at the end of the band's tour of the Americas: New York City's Madison Square Garden.
"The American audience has truly awesome rock fans, and I am ecstatic to return to the place where guitar-music has such a unique and long tradition," said guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe.
