Rammstein announce first North American tour in a decade

The only thing more rare than a Jeff Mangum performance? Try Rammstein U.S tour dates. So perhaps it’s only appropriate that on the day that the former Netural Milk Hotel frontman once again emerged from his reclusive shell, the German metal titans have announced plans for their first North American tour in a decade.
On the heels of their sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, which marked the band’s first U.S. performance in 10 years, Rammstein have announced nine additional dates for this May. “We have waited 10 long years for the perfect opportunity to bring our full show to North America. The time is now and we are excited to share this with our fans who have waited for so long,” said guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe in an issued statement.
Set to launch May 5th in E. Rutherford, NJ, the trek will then see Rammstein play three dates in Canada, two in California, and one-offs in Chicago and Seattle before concluding May 21st in Las Vegas. You can find the exact specifics below.
Tickets for tour, produced by Live Nation, will go on sale to the general public Friday, February 25th and Saturday, February 26th.

RAMMSTEIN To Tour North America In May - Feb. 16, 2011

German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN will bring their epic live show to nine cities in North America throughout the month of May. The Berlin-based six-piece band, who immediately sold out two exclusive performances last December at the Bell Centre in Montreal and the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City, has not toured in North America since 2001.

Tickets for tour, produced by Live Nation, will go on sale to the general public Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26 and are available at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

"The success of the RAMMSTEIN song 'Du Hast' in the U.S. was certainly one of the essential steps in our career," commented drummer Christoph Schneider.

"We have waited 10 long years for the perfect opportunity to bring our full show to North America. The time is now and we are excited to share this with our fans who have waited for so long," added guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe.

RAMMSTEIN began extensive touring last fall in support of "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da". Their formidable live show traversed Europe in twenty 18-wheelers packed with pyrotechnics, flame-throwers, bazookas and enough ordnance to level a small country. The band played to sold-out crowds in 10,000-plus seat venues, leading up to a summer filled with headlining slots on all the major European festivals. In the fall, the band then moved on to Latin America to play in some cities for the first time in its history. Now, after successfully touring Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa at the end of their extensive tour, RAMMSTEIN will give their North American fans a taste of their now-legendary live show.

RAMMSTEIN to return to North America

Rammstein first stormed America in 1998, touring with a set based on their Grammy- nominated breakthrough second release, Sehnsucht, featuring Du hast, the song that brought the world’s attention to the band. During their 1998 Family Values tour, praise was high, as well as indignation: band members were jailed in the US on indecency charges due to the highly provocative live show.

The band’s last tour of the US in 2001 was in support of the album Mutter, where they continued to explore societal and sexual taboos with a deft mix of sonic muscle and visual spectacle. Throughout the last decade they have found themselves embroiled in further controversy, incensing both the left and the right. The band’s most recent album, Liebe ist für alle da (“Love is there for all”), moved the German government
to ban its sale to minors shortly after release, only to have the order rescinded a few months later once the culture war was over. Meanwhile, there was no doubt about fans’ appreciation of the work: more than 16 million albums sold worldwide, #1 on many charts across Europe, and entrance on the Billboard Charts at #13 – the highest chart entry for Rammstein in the United States ever.

Rammstein performing live at The Grand Arena at Grandwest Casino in Cape Town

Sizzling-hot

It’s raining hot music in Jozi this weekend! Rammstein, Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D and, of course, U2.
Rammstein is possibly one of the most evil bands to hit our shores. Coming from an industrial metal background, and never compromising on their vicious sound, they will have all the metal heads and goths in suburbia crawling out of their coffins, dusting off their Docs and heading for the Coca-Cola Dome tomorrow night.
With a capacity of 17 000, Rammstein is sold out.
The band has no support act and are scheduled to go on at 8pm.
On Saturday night Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D perform in the Legends in the Making Tour.
This is the culmination of a brand activation around the country by Hansa. It featured Malaika, Futuresound, Zuluboy, Kwela Tebza, Vusi, Freedom and Ntando performing at Hansa Legend events across South Africa.

Fans were able to win tickets around the country resulting in 6 000 winners and celebrities attending the concert to be held at the Standard Bank Arena.
Doors open at 5pm with the first artist on at 7pm. All the mentioned artists are scheduled to perform on the night.
There is obviously a beer garden for a sundowner or two before the show.
There are no tickets for sale as Hansa say this is their way of giving back to their consumers.
Sunday sees the biggest concert to hit our shores since, well, probably since the last time U2 performed in Joburg.
About 101 000 people are expected to descend on FNB Stadium in Soweto for what is considered the biggest live music spectacle in the history of music.

At the time of going to press Computicket had released a few thousand tickets at R695.
The logistical nightmare of parking has been completely reduced thanks to the World Cup and the introduction of park-n-ride facilities. These start at noon.
Park-n-ride venues are at Constitutional Hill, The Coca-Cola Dome, Emperors Palace and Gold Reef City. Tickets cost R70 return.
Park-n-rail costs R50. The train will drop you off and pick you up from Nasrec, which is a five- minute walk from the stadium.
Venues are Pretoria and Centurion stations and Rhodes Field near OR Tambo. Trains will also leave from Joburg Station, Roodepoort Station, Germiston and Springs stations.
Gates only open at 4.30pm, but there will be vendors selling merchandise and refreshments outside all afternoon. Please note that there are no ATM facilities at the stadium so bring cash.
Support acts Miriam and Amadou begin the concert at 8pm. The Springbok Nude Girls perform at 8.45pm and U2 go on at 9.30pm.
To be a music fan in Jozi this weekend, makes us feel we are finally part of the international scene. It’s a great feeling.

Band's big on booze

The Smoking Gun website, which has leaked the demands made by many artists of concert organisers, offers insight into U2's love of booze.
The band's demands include that only "bottled beer", such as a case of Rolling Rock, four cases of Heineken, and half a case of Guinness stout, be provided.
Also high on the list is Cuervo Tequila, Stolli or Absolut vodka, a bottle of Jack Daniels Black Label, Moët White Star champagne, three "very good" French chardonnays and three "very good" French bordeaux wines, Mouton Cadet red wine, Jacobs Creek or Black Opal Australian white wine and a medium-quality port or sherry.

In comparison, German band Rammstein, who played at the Grand Arena in Cape Town last night, made more subdued demands, which looks less than rock royalty.
Their demands include skimmed milk, 30litres of non-carbonated water, 4litres of sparkling water, 10litres of 100% fruit juice in different flavours, and litres of energy drink Gatorade and Coca-Cola Light.
Sophie Doherty, of Big Concerts International, said she was "contractually" prevented from revealing the stars' requirements.
Dionne Domyan, of Penny Stein Promotions, said she had not seen the demands.
Rammstein perform in Johannesburg tomorrow at The Dome.
U2 will play to a 110000-strong crowd at FNB stadium on Sunday, before heading to the Cape Town stadium on February 18.

Changes to Rammstein CT show

Cape Town - Big Concerts have announced new details regarding German band Rammstein's first performance in Cape Town tonight.

According to their Facebook page, Big Concerts on Wednesday conveyed that “for all of those attending the Rammstein Cape Town concert tonight, doors will now open at 7pm and Rammstein are scheduled to go on stage at 8.15pm”.

Judging from Rammstein's reputation for spectacular shows with flamboyant, bionic arms, smoke and burning microphones, the German band Rammstein promise to leave a permanent footprint in South Africa.

In a recent documentary about the group, Anakonda Im Netz, they talk about their hardships in order to keep their reputation intact.

Band’s support

Some of the missiles have gone off at the wrong time or Till Lindemann, the lead singer with the dark voice and personality has gone too far with his burning bow.

Flake Lorenz, the keyboard player, is also the one who takes a “ride” in a rubber boat on the hands of the crowd – and this is if he doesn’t get turned upside down by the crowd and fractures his skull in the process.

Emu Fialik, the band’s manager, is in many respects the man that, apart from their music, contributes most to the band’s support.

Mass hysteria

His fascination with lights and sound helps to create the bigger picture that eventually gives shape to the performance.

“Special effects aren’t part of Rammstein's show to make them look pretty” says Fialik in the documentary. “It helps to carry the message of their music across. I often stand in awe over the effect the end result has on people.”

In Russia the government was so nervous about the band’s performance that they threw a cordon around the stadium – just in case mass hysteria was to break out.

Shot of tequila

Lindemann listens to Latin-American mariachi-music before going on stage – the same song before each show which apparently drives the rest of the band insane.

Riedel in turn likes to stretch his muscles while Kruspe always ensures his guitars are perfectly in tune.

Then, just before hitting the stage, they enjoy a shot of tequila together.

Schneider describes his experience of their performances as follows: “During a concert a magical atmosphere exists and you absorb the energy of 20 000 people. Then you play the last notes, the lights go on and the people walk out. For those few minutes, you realise you’re alive.”
